Scorpions in Phoenix

Scorpions are predatory arachnids in the order Scorpiones. Like all arachnids and spiders, they have eight legs. Differing from spiders, scorpions have a rounded segmented tail, and a set of pinchers called pedipalps. Being that scorpions have a similar appearance, we may think that all scorpions are the same except in size and color, but that would be incorrect. The families of scorpions are distinct, including the hideous-looking family of whip scorpions. All scorpions are poisonous, but the majority of the species do not pose a vital threat to humans.

An adult in good health who has been stung, most likely would not need medical treatment. Within the scorpion’s skin contains fluorescent chemicals that shine a vibrant turquoise color when exposed to specific wavelengths of ultraviolet light such as that produced by a black light.
