Scorpions in North Las Vegas

Scorpions are predatory arachnids in the order Scorpiones. All arachnids, including spiders, they have eight legs. Unlike spiders, they have that recognizable segmented tail, and a pair of crab-like pinchers called pedipalps. By the look of different scorpion species, you might think that they are primarily alike, only varying in size and color, but that is not the case. Every scorpion family is unique, including the ghastly-looking family of whip scorpions. Each scorpion has a poisonous barb at the end of their tail known as a telson. Although scorpions are deadly predators, the vast majority of the species do not pose a serious threat to humans.

Healthy adults who are stung in most instances do not need medical treatment. Due to the fluorescent chemicals in their cuticle when viewing scorpions under wavelengths of ultraviolet light, such as that produced by a black light, they glow a radiant turquoise color.
