Scorpions in Matthews

Scorpions are predatory arachnids in the order Scorpiones. Like spiders, all arachnids have eight legs. One of the many differences between spiders and scorpions is that scorpions have a hook-shaped segmented tail, and a set of crab-like pinchers called pedipalps. After looking at different scorpions species, we may be under the impression that all scorpions are predominantly the same, only differing in their size and color, but that would be incorrect. Some families of scorpions are vastly different, for instance, the bizarre-looking family of whip scorpions. All scorpions have a deadly sting, but the overall majority of the species do not present a significant threat to humans.

After being stung, most healthy adults do not need medical treatment. The fluorescent compounds in the cuticle of scorpions, cause them to radiate a striking blue-green when exposed to wavelengths of ultraviolet light, such as that produced by a black.
