Scorpions in Las Vegas

Scorpions are predatory arachnids in the order Scorpiones. Like spiders and all arachnids, they have eight legs. Unlike spiders, scorpions have a curved tail, and a set of scissor-like claws called pedipalps. From the looks of scorpions, we may believe they are mainly the same, only varying in size and color, but that is far from the truth. Some families of scorpions are unique, including the eerie-looking family of whip scorpions. All scorpions have a stinger used to inject venom into their prey, but for the most part, pose little threat to humans.

Adults who are in good health and are stung by a scorpion most likely will not require medical treatment. The shell of a scorpion consists of fluorescent chemicals that gleam a dazzling turquoise color when exposed to wavelengths of ultraviolet light, such as that produced by a black light.
