Crickets in Corpus Christi

Crickets are small to medium-sized insects with mostly cylindrical, somewhat vertically flattened bodies. Over 900 species of crickets have been identified around the world. Most male crickets make a loud chirping sound by stridulation (scraping two specially textured limbs together). Stridulation allows some species to create many different cricket songs. The mating song attracts females and repels other males, and is relatively loud.
