Do you have bed bugs in Austin or the suburbs of Rollingwood, Barton Hills, and Tarrytown? Bed bugs are nighttime insects that nourish themselves on human and animal blood. Bed bugs are not known to carry diseases, but they are a major nuisance. Bed bugs can create three or more generations each year. Females lay hundreds of eggs over their lifetime. Young bedbugs, also called nymphs, discard their skin a few times as they mature to adulthood. Before each shedding, they must feed.

Bed bugs can live nearly anyplace in the home. They’re most often found in box springs and mattresses, as the name suggests. However, they can also live in bedding, upholstered furniture, picture frames, electrical outlets, and wallpaper. Bed bugs may even live in cars, trains, and buses. Suitcases and backpacks may house bed bugs as well and can move them quickly from one place to another. The bed bug’s primary consideration is finding a sustainable food source.

Bed bugs take five to ten minutes to feed. Therefore, they often prefer to do so in the dark when people are sleeping. After feeding, the bed bug will run to a secluded area for roughly five to ten days as it digests its meal. Bed bugs favor the blood of humans, so they will seek out populated areas over rural ones. They can feed on warm-blooded animals but prefer not to.
