Well the Black Widow doesn't always eat her mate. The Black Widow initially got her name because she does eat her mate on occasions and because it was so novel for all of us guys out there that don't wont to be eaten by some crazy maniac woman, the Black Widow became the Widow spider. But again its very uncommon for Black Widows to actually eat their mate.
