WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

Stars

Always happy with Bulwark’s services! We have used them since we moved in and John B. has always had a great attitude, explained the process in detail so we knew what to expect, and made sure our home stays pest free.

Stars

Shout out to Dave @ Bullwark Exterminating. I ‘ve used this company for about 4 years now beginning one summer when my dogs were bringing in chewed up rodents. They do a great job from spraying for bugs, removing yellow jacket nests, to keeping those bait boxes full so there are no more rodent issues! I am a very satisfied customer!

4 MOST COMMON
PEST PROBLEMS IN Tulsa

SERVICES

Most Common Tulsa Pests

Mosquitoes

In 2019, mosquitoes in the Tulsa area tested positive for the West Nile virus. While West Nile prevalence varies year to year, this positive test proves that mosquitoes in the area can carry the virus. Knowing the virus could reside right in your backyard should be encouraging enough to take the necessary precautions now. Dump and drain outdoor items such as buckets, cans, or flower pots to prevent stagnant water, which mosquitoes use as breeding grounds. If you have poor drainage areas in your yard, ask us about our spot treatment options.

Spiders

The Greater Tulsa area is home to a variety of spider species, including brown recluses, black widows, and nonvenomous wolf spiders. Brown recluse venom is one of the most toxic, causing blisters, itching, and intense pain. Severe cases can even cause necrosis, or soft tissue death and breakdown. Due to these spiders’ dangerous nature, it’s highly recommended to treat your home if you live in the Tulsa area. Young children are the most susceptible to brown recluse bites because they often climb on or reach into common spider hiding spots, such as behind bed headboards and under large furniture.

Fire Ants

Although fire ants are among the rarest ant species in Tulsa, they exist in some areas. They have very painful bites, and in large numbers, they can even kill livestock. A single ant can cause a small pet to go blind if stung on or near the eye. Fire ants often come into homes looking for food and water sources and can even damage wooden structures. They often climb trees, and when the wind blows, they can fall on humans or animals and sting out of fear. Directly treating the nest is often the best way to eradicate fire ants and remove them from your home.

Termites

Tulsa has a large amount of green space around many residential areas. During peak termite season, homes become feeding grounds for swarms and infestations. Termites can also invade after periods of heavy rain, as they’re attracted to wet or moist wood. For this reason, storm-damaged homes are often one of their first targets. If you have recently experienced damage to your home, or find evidence of termite activity, schedule an inspection immediately. The faster you act, the sooner we can prevent further structural damage.

Treatment Methods

At our Tulsa location, we pride ourselves on the services provided to residents within the area. We employ several methods to address different types of pests:

In-Wall Treatments

We recommend in-wall treatments in situations with termites or similar pests that damage the internal structure of homes. Our experts spray in small spaces and tight corners, such as plumbing and cabling. Repeated use and full coverage discourage pests from even entering your walls. In-wall treatments are typically extreme solutions for severe problems. The process involves taking down drywall around the most affected areas and installing tubes. These tubes distribute pest treatments throughout your walls and prevent future problems.

Baiting

Baiting involves dressing a pest control product in a way that’s attractive to a particular pest; this draws them out to either eat it or share it with their colony. Baiting is one of the more effective methods, as many species notice spray and dust products and avoid them. However, baiting is a slow process, and the results are not often immediate. It’s relatively safe to use within the home because the products generally contain 5% or less active pest control ingredients. It’s only enough to cause harm to pests.

Crevice Treatments

Areas such as plumbing under the sink, space behind large appliances such as dishwashers, and even along window sills are preferred locations for many pests. We typically treat these areas with sprays and dust to temporarily deter pests. For tiny crevices and cracks in the walls, we use injection tubes to seal them off. Ingredients within the injector solution cause common pests to avoid the sealed areas, creating a protective barrier.

Exterior Power Spray

We apply exterior power sprays along the outer perimeter of your home; this creates a protective barrier that prevents most pests from entering the premises. Power sprays are among the most common, long-term pest solutions most exterminators provide. Using exterior power sprays allows you to avoid in-home sprays that, although safe, may have an undesirable smell, preventing you from entering certain rooms for brief periods.

The exterior power spray is the key to long-term pest control for your home. If the outer barrier is maintained correctly, it will prevent bugs from breaching the barrier and infesting the inside of your home. The ideal scenario is that the exterior protective barrier keeps bugs outside, and therefore you never need pesticides within your home again.

Trapping

Traps are regularly used for animal control, rodent control, and snake control. Snap traps and glue traps are the most common. Rattlesnakes are a major concern in the Austin area. You may be surprised with a few other available trapping methods; talk with us about our scorpion traps.

Is Pest Control Safe for My Family, My Farm?

One of the most common questions we receive concerns pest control safety for both farms and family homes. While harmful pesticides exist, we use ingredients that attack insects, not mammals. Bulwark Exterminating uses the most effective products available to solve your pest problems. Our customers even get to choose between our hybrid treatment or our all-natural active ingredient treatment.

People have treated their crops with anti-pest remedies since 2500 B.C., using a mixture of sulfur compounds to target mites and other insects. By 1500 B.C., people began experimenting with other methods, such as planting and cultivating on specific dates to avoid particular insects. Throughout human history, our methods for targeting insects have adapted and evolved across all cultures and ways of thinking. For example, around 400 A.D., Chinese rice farmers applied arsenic to the roots of rice paddies to prevent infestation.

While previous concoctions posed harmful side effects to crops and animals, modern technology has provided safer and more effective ingredients. Around 1700 A.D., scientists discovered new plant alternatives for creating better, safer insecticides.

A little insect education goes a long way toward identifying a potential pest problem, and we can help if you give us a call. Tulsa, Oklahoma, is a great place to live and grow a family. We want to ensure you and your loved ones feel happy, safe, and secure within your home so you can focus on more important things in life.
